January 2012: Budget PC’s

Here are this months top budget pc’s.

Intel Based:

Intel I3 2120 – $130 – While only a dual core it beats out some of AMD’s top Phenom II’s in gaming performance.  And for the inviting price of 130, it’s hard to pass up.

BIOSTAR H61MGC - $50 – This is just your run of the mill, fits the build, fits the budget motherboard.  It can be swapped out for almost anything just so long as it fits the CPU and RAM.

G.Skills Ripjaws X-Series (8GB 2x4GB) – $40 – I’ve always been a fan of the Ripjaws, and they look pretty cool to.  8GB of DDR3 is gonna do you just fine, and beast through any game you want to put this rig up to.

Rosewill DESTROYER – $50 – Rosewill is by far my favorite case brand, IMO no one comes close to their quality (atleast for their 50 dollar line, which is perfect for a budget build).  There  well made, keeps cool, and… drum roll… is 50 bucks.

Rosewill PSU 600W – $65 – There isn’t to much to say hear; with 600w you’ll be a little upgrade proof and it’s got blue led’s >.<

Seagate 500GB 7200RPM HD - $85 – This is what we call a HD… well thats it… Because of the flooding in Thailand it’s going to be hard to keep a 1TB drive in the budget without getting a cheap knockoff brand.  For now, we’ll leave it how it is.

XFX 6870 – $170 – The 6870 line has always been my favorite GPU, its bang-for-buck is down right amazing, but to be honest giving that the card is getting up their in age I expected to switch it out; however to my amazement it’s still keeping up with all the modern games with a pretty low price point.  Also this XFX has a better cooling system for the potential of OC’ing the GPU.

Total price: $584

*NOTE: This doesn’t include an optical drive, they will usually run you about 20 bucks but it’s best to pick one out the day you’re buying your PC; they’re usually on sale.

AMD Based:

This build is very similar to the Intel one, seeing as most of the parts are interchangeable, with the exception of the motherboard and CPU.

Phenom II x4 975 BE - $160 - This is the best bang for buck gaming CPU AMD has to offer. This CPU is can be overclocked with ease. I have heard of it going from 3.6GHz to 4.3GHz which make a world of difference. And I have yet to hear of any bottle necking problems for any game or program.

Foxconn A76ML-K – $45 – As with the Intel build, this is basically the cheapest motherboard we could find; that also happens to be compatible with all the needed components ;)

G.Skills Ripjaws X-Series (8GB 2x4GB) – $40 – I’ve always been a fan of the Ripjaws, and they look pretty cool to.  8GB of DDR3 is gonna do you just fine, and beast through any game you want to put this rig up to.

Rosewill DESTROYER - $50 – Rosewill is by far my favorite case brand, IMO no one comes close to their quality (atleast for their 50 dollar line, which is perfect for a budget build).  There  well made, keeps cool, and… drum roll… is 50 bucks.

Total price: $615

When deciding between the two builds there are some key features that need to be looked at.  Mostly is what it’ll be used for, gaming obviously, but if you also do a lot of desktop publishing (Graphic design, Media encoding, Writing Documents) you may want to go with the AMD build.  But if you’re looking for pure gaming performance the intel route can give you a few more FPS.

If you have any objections, or recommendations for a change to the build please let us know in the comments.
